It Was Written: How the Old Testament Predicted the Exact Birth, Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Introduction:
The story of Jesus Christ did not begin in a manger. Nor did it end at a cross. His life is the heartbeat of Scripture itself—foretold in detail centuries before He walked among us. From Genesis to Malachi, God wove a tapestry of promises that point directly to one Man: Jesus of Nazareth.

No prophecy is random. No fulfillment is accidental. The Old Testament gives us a precise roadmap—a divine breadcrumb trail—leading straight to the Savior. And one prophecy, hidden in the book of Daniel, even tells us the exact day the Messiah would present Himself as King.

Let’s walk through the Scriptures that laid the foundation for our faith, and be strengthened by the unshakable truth: Jesus is who He claimed to be—the Promised One, the Redeemer, the King.

1. The Virgin Birth – God With Us

Isaiah 7:14“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

This prophecy, written around 700 B.C., was fulfilled when Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:22–23 records the angel confirming that this child would be Immanuel—God with us. This was not poetic imagery. It was literal incarnation.

Micah 5:2“But you, Bethlehem… out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.”

Jesus wasn’t just born in Bethlehem; He was born from eternity into time. The very city of His birth was named in prophecy, a powerful reminder that God orchestrates every detail.

2. The Life and Ministry – Healing, Teaching, and Parables

Isaiah 61:1–2“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me… to preach good tidings to the poor… to heal the brokenhearted…”

Jesus quoted this passage in Luke 4:18–21, announcing that He was the fulfillment. He healed the sick, opened blind eyes, forgave sinners, and declared the Kingdom of God—all just as Isaiah had written.

Psalm 78:2“I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old.”

Jesus didn’t just teach with authority—He taught in parables, fulfilling this prophetic pattern of hiding eternal truths within earthly stories.

3. Daniel’s Prophecy – The Exact Day of the Triumphal Entry

Daniel 9:25“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks…”

This is one of the most precise prophecies in all of Scripture. Gabriel told Daniel that from the issuing of the decree to rebuild Jerusalem, there would be 69 prophetic weeks (483 years) until the Messiah would come.

That decree was issued by Artaxerxes in 445 B.C. (see Nehemiah 2). When you calculate 483 years using the Jewish calendar of 360-day years, it brings you exactly to Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey (Luke 19:37–44). The crowd shouted, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!”

And Jesus wept, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day…” (Luke 19:42). Why? Because Daniel had told them the exact day, and they still missed it.

4. The Suffering Servant – Crucified for Our Sins

Isaiah 53 – Written centuries before Christ, this chapter foretells:

  • Despised and rejected by men (v.3)
  • Wounded for our transgressions (v.5)
  • Silent before His accusers (v.7)
  • Assigned a grave with the wicked and with the rich (v.9)

There is no honest way to read this passage and not see Jesus. His crucifixion was not a Roman invention—it was divine prophecy fulfilled.

Psalm 22:16–18“They pierced My hands and My feet… They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.”

David described crucifixion 1,000 years before it existed. At the cross, Roman soldiers gambled for Jesus’ garments and pierced His hands and feet—exactly as written.

5. The Resurrection – He Would Not See Decay

Psalm 16:10“You will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will You let Your faithful one see decay.”

Peter, in Acts 2, boldly proclaims that this verse was about Jesus. His body did not rot in the grave. He rose again—bodily, gloriously, victoriously!

Isaiah 53:11“He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many…”

Jesus didn’t die a martyr. He died a Lamb—and He lives again as our Advocate.

Conclusion: This Was No Coincidence—It Was the Plan

From the Garden of Eden to the Garden Tomb, the story of Jesus was carefully, prophetically, divinely orchestrated. Over 300 prophecies were fulfilled in the life of one Man—Jesus Christ. Statistically impossible. Theologically undeniable.

Daniel told us when. Micah told us where. Isaiah told us how. David told us what it would look like.

And all of it leads to one final question:
Will you believe?
